About the clinic

With assistance from the University of Nancy, University Hospital Saarland Homburg (UKS) was founded in 1947. The hospital offers top-notch medical services for both adults and children. All medical specializations are now provided on campus, where they live in harmony with the verdant surroundings. In addition to the Saarland, UKS is a leader in patient care, medical research, and teaching.

The hospital comprises 30 specialized departments and 20 institutes. Every year, the facility cares for 200,000 outpatients and more than 50,000 inpatients. The medical staff performs around 7,000 surgeries and treatments annually. Quality-certified interdisciplinary institutions employ a team of about 600 physicians and 2,000 nurses to care for patients. With TV, internet, and restrooms, the hospital offers 1,200 beds in single and double rooms. On the hospital grounds, there is a pharmacy and a café serving meals for all tastes.

UKS offers cutting-edge research in a global network. The hospital’s internationally recognized research serves as the theoretical foundation for future diagnostic and treatment strategies. The hospital’s departments include the most advanced equipment, including 1.5T MRI machines, 64-slice computed tomography, and ultrasound diagnostic tools. The identification of the disease’s cause is given particular attention. As their primary and most specialized area of expertise, medical experts use their extensive experience to examine the inherited causes, triggers, and modulators of diseases.

The Molecular Genetic Laboratory, part of the Faculty of Medicine II, performs these studies in compliance with international standards.

The clinic’s main goal is to diagnose and treat problems of the gastrointestinal tract. Patients with rare liver diseases, such as those that are autoimmune, cholestatic, or genetic in origin, can receive comprehensive care from the internal medicine department of the university hospital. Additionally, doctors specialize in treating urological, surgical, gynecological, and oncological issues related to various organs. Treatment is delivered using creative techniques while abiding by national and international regulations. The medical staff creates a welcoming atmosphere to ensure the comfort of inpatient patients.
